The first time I hopped from Canadell<\/strong> to Port Bo<\/strong>, I realized Calella is best enjoyed like a tapas crawl: today, sand to stretch out on; tomorrow, rocks to watch fish; the next day, a tiny cove for photos. To keep it simple, here\u2019s my golden rule in two lines: if you see rock or plan to snorkel, water shoes\u2014yes; if you stick to the central strip of sand (Canadell, Port Bo, Llafranc), water shoes\u2014optional. With that settled, let\u2019s break it down.<\/p>\n\n

What you\u2019ll notice underfoot<\/h2>\n\n

Here, coarse sand rules on the more urban beaches, and slabs and pebbles pop up in many corners and little coves. Getting into the water is usually gentle where there\u2019s more sand and a bit uneven where rock dominates. With kids or sensitive feet, the central strip of the bigger beaches is your ally; if you like to explore the edges, water shoes give you grip and save you from the tiptoeing \u201cow, ow, ow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

Where you hardly need water shoes (sand & comfort)<\/h2>\n\n

  • Platja del Canadell<\/strong>. Wide, with a promenade and amenities. Entry: gentle and gradual. Access<\/strong>: stroller-friendly. Water shoes<\/strong>: unnecessary if you stay in the center; useful along the edges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Port Bo<\/strong> \/ Les Barques.<\/strong> Coarse sand next to the boats. Entry<\/strong>: easy; watch for rock slabs along the sides. Water shoes<\/strong>: optional.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Els Canyissos<\/strong> (right next to Canadell). Small and sandy. Entry<\/strong>: comfortable. Water shoes<\/strong>: unnecessary unless you head onto the rocks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Platja de Llafranc<\/strong> (neighboring village, a short walk). Wide and sandy. Entry<\/strong>: very gradual. Water shoes<\/strong>: unnecessary; optional near the breakwaters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    • El Golfet.<\/strong> Small pebbles + rock beneath cliffs; crystal-clear water. Entry<\/strong>: pebbly\u2014go in slowly. Access<\/strong>: sloped footpath. Water shoes: yes. Best time<\/strong>: morning (less wind and beautiful light).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Port Pelegr\u00ed.<\/strong> It starts with sand and within a few meters rock takes over. Entry:<\/strong> the texture changes quickly. Access<\/strong>: urban. Water shoes:<\/strong> recommended\u2014ideal for gentle snorkeling along the sides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Sant Roc (Els Canyers).<\/strong> Small and rocky, with a staircase descent from the viewpoint. Entry<\/strong>: short but stony. Space<\/strong>: very limited. Water shoes<\/strong>: yes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
